During March and April, the Clinical Working Group reviewing planned care services discussed options for delivering planned, or elective, surgery, including day cases and outpatients, to ensure that high quality, safe and affordable services could be delivered into the future.
The group considered how to improve integration of care between hospitals and GPs. They looked at ‘best practice’ evidence from other health trusts around the country and discussed how these models of care might be used to provide services locally in the community, offer rapid access to consultants for example through ‘urgent outpatient’ appointments, offer the highest quality specialist care with locally provided out-patient services, and make best use of existing facilities such as operating theatres.
The group developed potential models for each speciality that could offer patients a streamlined access to planned care with joined up support from other specialities and allied professionals.
We welcome your input to the discussions and invite you to 'have your say' by joining our discussion forum or by emailing us your thoughts and suggestions.
