Hospital changes subject to Departmental policy not law

31 January 2013

Any change to the running of hospital services in Worcestershire would be subject to policy not EU competition law. NHS leaders in Worcestershire are keen to clarify that this is a matter for Department of Health policy (Principles and Rules of Cooperation and Competition) not legislation.

NHS Worcestershire’s Joint Services Review (JSR) held a scheduled meeting today (18 December). The JSR looked in detail at the work which has been done since October to develop and test the clinical and financial sustainability of options which would maximise health services on all three hospital sites.

NHS Worcestershire has decided to focus its review on providing the maximum number of services at all three acute hospitals across the county.

Following a meeting of Joint Services Review (JSR) steering group NHS Worcestershire's chief executive, Eamonn Kelly, said: "We have listened to what local people and interest groups have been saying and taken advice from our senior clinicians (doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals).

Joint Statement on behalf of Kidderminster Hospital Alliance and Worcestershire NHS

Tuesday 18 September 2012 

Senior managers from the NHS in Worcestershire met members of the Kidderminster Hospital Alliance on Friday (14 September) to discuss the review of health services in the county. The meeting was chaired by Mark Garnier MP.

The healthcare leaders said that they were keen to hear the views of Wyre Forest people and that NHS Worcestershire remains committed to a second round of public engagement as well as a full three month consultation period.  The campaign group and the NHS leaders said they are both committed to finding the best solution for local people with the majority of healthcare services provided locally.

Clinical leaders from the Worcestershire Joint Services Review of hospital services have announced that around 400 local people from all walks of life took part in the early discussion events on the future of hospital services for the county. Seven public events took place, with two in Kidderminster, two in Redditch and others in Bromsgrove, Pershore and Worcester. Full consultation is scheduled for November.
