In compliance with the Health and Social Care Act (2008) DH 2015, registered providers of healthcare should ensure that all staff are fully involved in the process of preventing and controlling infection. Training is one way in which this can be demonstrated.  Training provided by the Infection Prevention and Control Team can be to address a particular practice or concern or simply to provide information on safe working practices.

Training can be undertaken in a variety of ways:

  • Specific sessions can be provided to groups of staff within GP practices, Nursing Homes or Trust healthcare settings.  For more information contact 01386 502597.

  • Annual Conferences and Product Exhibitions are provided for Qualified Staff in May and Healthcare Assistants in September every year.   Full-day conferences are designed to give a more in-depth knowledge of what is happening right now and covers all new DH guidance, trends etc.  During the morning there will be talks from Microbiologists and other specialists and in the afternoon delegates are divided into groups so that the training can be specifically tailored to individual needs.  There is also the opportunity to ask questions or raise any concerns.

  • For staff who want to undertake an Update in Infection Prevention and Control the workbooks below provide an alternative to face to face training or e-learning.  (e-learning is available to Health and Care Trust staff via ESR.)  PLEASE SELECT THE BOOKLET MOST APPLICABLE TO YOUR ROLE.  When the team receives back the signed slip on the back page you will receive a certificate to indicate completion and if you are part of the Health and Care Trust your name will be forwarded to TDU for entry onto ESR to indicate completion of mandatory training.

    Workbooks are currently available for:
